I got a 83' cj7 with 31s but im looking to go up to 35s or 36s. I was playing on doin a 6" lift but my question is about my axles. I got the usual 20/30 axles and Im trying to do this as cheap as possible since im in college and all. I was wondering if i can get away with keeping my axles and maybe just regearing or if i should drop in a rear 44 or ford 9". Im not sure how much offroading ill be doing but i want to be ready. Some advice would be great

"Cheap" is to Jeep as "Budget" is to the US Government
No such thing.
Yeah, you can make either last with only mild trail action. I say go with 33 TSL's and spend the rest on a winch or rear locker.

Ditto. With the d20 rear, you could swap in some one piece axles. That would help, but not with the gearing.

Those axles will be fine with moderate wheelin up to 35" tires, as long as you install the 1-piece rear shafts. I'd regear at the same time, and consider lockers since you'll need different carriers anyway.
