Teraflex Jeep spare tire spacer

I’ve been running 31” tires for some time now and my spare tire has never really fit on correctly. I put a stack of washers between the tire and the carrier, but it still made contact with the third brake light. So, I wanted a better solution that would look good and correctly position my tire. After some research I found the Teraflex Spare Tire Extension Bracket, part number 1907200

Overall I like the bracket, but it does raise the tire a few inches. This is great for larger tires (i.e. 33") but not necessary for a 31" tire. The effectively blocks the third brakelight.

You can see from the photos that this bracket not only spaces the tire away from the carrier, but also moves it up a bit.

Before photos

Some shots of the stock TJ tire care on my 2005 Wrangler. You can see that there isn’t much room between the tire and the 3rd brakelight

Mounting the spare tire bracket

The mounting bracket is pretty straight forward. You bolt it to the carrier using the stock stud along with the supplied washers, lock washers and nuts.

Finishing up

Then bolt the old Wrangler spare tire back up and you’re good to go.

Conclusion

Overall this is a good bracket, but you’ll have to purchase or fab up a new 3rd brake light. You can see from the before and after photos below that this bracket causes the tire to cover the light. This is good for a larger tire in order to keep it off the bumper, but for my smaller 31” isn’t not necessary.

I do however think this is a well made, sturdy bracket.

I've got the bracket on my 2009 jk, ez to put on only thing the tailgate won't hold up to the bouncing support is on the tailgate and the spot welds gave away. I'm looking to replace bumper that come with tire carrier so the support is on the bumper not the tinny tailgate.
