The angry wave

driving home today i saw an red XJ with some good mud on it, so as i passed, I waved the best jeep wave i had
apparently in the dimming light, this poor jeeper thought i was flipping him the bird and decided to chase up to me and "almost ram" the side of my car...
man that wave went wrong...


so you want the end of the story
like the defensive driver that i am...
i backed off and slowed down allowing him to go get angry somewhere else


hahah


the moral of the story is that people get so angry on the roads today, that when a gesture of kindness is given it is taken for something of anger....

and that is why california sux

I am sorry to say........but it is just that every one in California is like that.I hate to say it,but the drivers are bad,the people are rude and stupid.And random acts of kindness like letting someone pull out of their driveway on a busy street and they just drive away, you never get a wave,or a thanks. :x Sully

Around here noone waves. I try to wave at all the swb Jeeps but rarely get one back. Only twice has someone else waved to me first. The second time was last night. I was turning left in my stock TJ and sitting at the light on my left was a nice, dirty, lifted YJ. Between turning the wheel and shifting I was unable to initiate the 'wave' and before I could offer up the 'nod' a pretty little hand waves over HER steering wheel at me. :shock: That makes it all OK. You gotta love a girl that understands.

before sunday, i had only ever gotten a nod from a dude in a cherokee (minus waving at jeepers i already know :wink: ). sunday i was driving over to a friends house, when i saw a modded yj. it was snowy, and starting to get dark. i waved and the driver waved back or at least acknowledged my wave. i was psyched !

That must me a socal thing. Here in the silicon valley I get a wave from 75% of all Jeeps. I always give them. Yeah, you get some idiots but I'm not gonna complain because I've been that idiot too. *Oh crap. I was supposed to be at work 15 minutes ago. Wheels screeching in the background.*

I think it was just a misunderstanding, from a drivers point of view, a kind wave could look like an evil birdi, we will never know the truth though.

Sully, my comment was more towards the trying to run him over part.

If someone just flicked me off randomly I'd think "what a loser" and move on, not try to take out their Jeep :roll:

But I guess I'm just a calmer driver than some...

People are generally starting to suck. I am glad they tend to migrate into groups. People here wave whether they know you, riding their lawn mower, walking the dog. Of course not in the busy/business parts of town. People here are about the nicest I have found across america. I have countless mind blowing nice people stories just in the two years since I have moved here.

Not that I haven't stopped a few people on my bike in the middle of traffic too. My life isn't up to being play with. Apparently the way they lock the door and try to hide in the passengers floor board their life isn't up for being played with either.

Now thats funny, here in the Boston area people drive like crap, always speeding, cutting you off, etc... I have visited California a few times and my thought has always been "wow... people are really relaxed when it comes to driving out here!" Now, maybe I'm wrong in my impression, but I'll take a drive any day through cali over a boston evening commute!
Incidentally, 98% of all swb jeeps around here either wave, or wave back.

Newb question about Tj's

I never get a wave from long islanders in stock jeeps. Unless up close at a light. I always get a wave from the modifieds.

I have experience that about 90% of CJ's YJ's & TJ's wave back. I always give ppl the "peace sign" w/ my hand still on the wheel. Every once in a while I zone out and notice a jeep waving at me, but it is too late. I feel like such a jerk I just want to turn around and apolagise. (sp?) This one kid prolly early 20's that drives an XJ waves at me all the time, but I dont notice until he is almost past me. I feel bad about that too. I dont usually wave at those guys in XJ's cause they dont know why your waving at them.

I get about a 95% wave back, from YJ's, TJ's, and CJ's anyway. I think it's just the mood you catch someone in. You can't label a whole state because of a few bad apples. I LUV MY CALI!

916 How the heck do you get around NYC with those tires! I loved your city, awesome place. I saw 2 jeeps, I counted them, I was tempted to wave but then I remembered I wasn't in mine... lol.. Never been so afraid for my life in a cab before, I think you have to drive a little crazy to make it around there, in decent time anyway. Cheers to NYC for an awesome New Years!
