Tire question

Quick question:

With the additional lift I'm working on for my '06 Wrangler (4" suspension 1" body) I'm going to upgrade from 32" tires to 33" tires (I know I could clear 35's, but I'm trying to make my D30 front happy with a locker). My question is, if I keep the stock wheels would I be better off with 33x10.5x15's, or would the 33x12.5x15s fit or work better?? Thoughts?

The stock wheels with the 33"x12.5"s may cause some rubbing issues between the rear tire and the coil spring bucket. You will also rub the control arms sooner when turning. Find somebody with a similar setup to know for sure.

If you happen to have the 2.4L engine, consider running the 10.5" wide tire for less rotating mass.

I do have the 4.0, and also I have 1.5" wheel spacers, so would I still have rubbing issues?

Stock wheels the backspacing is wrong for larger tires.

Rubbing is not really a problem unless you have sharp edges.

you can help by putting washers on steering stops.

you lose some of your turning radius, not a problem on mall crawling, but off road you will have to make more 3 or 4 point turns.

the 10.5 width tires are harder to find than 12.5 width

good luck

I went thru the same deal. Upgraded my 10.5 to 12.5 and began to rub. Ended up changing out my stock wheels for some nice after markets to clear from rubbing. 10.5 always made my Jeep feel a bit unstable with my 4 inch lift. Love the difference i got with the 12.5. My concern was not making my Jeep look like a skateboard. It looks great now.

I'd run the 35's and go to the junk yard and grab some spare shafts. D30 shafts are easy to swap out on the trail.

or

I would loose about 3" of lift and run the 33's. 5" total of lift is a bit excessive for a 32 or 33" tire in my opinion.
