Someone gave me a 1987 Jeep YJ. IT has the 4.2 engine and currently a NV3550 transmission with a np207 transfer case. I am doing a ground up rebuild. The transmission and transfer case is shot. When I drained the oil it was full of water. The transfer case wont even come off due to the rust. I have had several people suggest putting an automatic into the jeep since I need a new transmission. How hard would this be. I admit I am not mechanically gifted and this is a learning project. Any suggestions on the transmission and transfer case? Any help would be appreciated.
