transmission leak

Maybe!

Hey All!

It's been awhile since I've posted, but I have been "lurking".....question for you ladies and gentlmen.......

I have had a known transfer case leak (gasket needs to be replaced) and have been monitoring it for the past couple of months.....it is not bad at all.

However, this weekend I used the Jeep (1998 automatic) to tow my single jetski about 80 miles total.....problem now is that the leak is substantially worse....yeah I know....duh.

Question is this.....is the fluid shared between the transmission and the transfer case? Or are they separate?

Thanks in advance.....Patti

Engine Troubles of some sort

I don't know about your T-case, but mine takes straight 90 wt. So does my transmission for that matter, but yours is an automatic, so it probably takes automatic transmission fluid, so my guess is no, the fluids aren't shared. I hope somebody who knows a bit more about these new Wranglers can give you a hand though, just my guess.

RE: Cruise Control?

Thay are seperate. You have a seal at the tail end of the transmission that the t-case mates too.

They're both ATF but they're designed not to mix between the two. Your transmission should have a seal around the output shaft that seals tight against the transfer case input when they're mated together.

Which gets low on fluid, the transfer case or transmission?
