Unit Bearing?

Changing the front brake pads on my daughters cherokee and notice there seems to be a little back and forth play in the bearings, is this normal or should it be tight?

There should be no play in any bearings. You might want to check it out.

Yeah I know but never I never delt with sealed bearings.
It's dead, as soon as that happens to a sealed bearing replace it, I went 3 months on a bad sealed bearing and before I new it I did more damaged than I thought I did. And I tell you if you don't have a pres to pres the bearing in and out it will be one pane in the ass:cry:, so tell your daughter not to drive it until it is fixed or before she know it there will be more damage.

There should be no play in the bearing assembly, and you don't need a press of any sort to repace it. A replacement unit bearing assembly runs about 125-150 for the part.

That's cheaper than what I would have payed for on a Escape, it was around $250 I think.

the biggest PITA is the 12 point heads on the bolts (a torch helps there; a real one at taht with oxygen and acetylene; a hand held propane job is a joke) if you were closer I'd say bring it over; they take me about an hr a side, and that's on jackstands. no press needed. and if you paid more than the $125 listed you overpaid. they can be had cheaper (sometimes ALOT) but sometimes you get what you pay for.... I try to avoid "made in China" like the Plague.
