waterlocked

Hi,
I went mudding today in my 1999 jeep wranger. It has a 4.0. I hit the water a little too fast and killed my engine. After figuring it just got a little wet, i let it sit a while and it still wouldnt turn over. A toyata driving by pulled me out and i got towed home by AAA. After getting it home it still wouldnt turn over, so i pulled the intake tube and noticed water in teh throttle body. Uh-oh. I pulled all the plugs, and cranked it with the starter, and a good amount of water shot out. I then got new plugs and chainged the oil, and it will turn over now, but it still wont fire. I have the firing order at what the chiltons says. What else should i try? Or should i just consider it fried and put it the old 350 from my Nova. lol. Thanks in advance,
Justin

RE: 4wd lever issues

Is it getting spark? I would check for messed up electrical stuff. Other than that I just don't know...the 350 in my boat wouldn't start, and today I found out it had water in 4 of the cylinders...I'll be watching this post too to see what turns up, and praying the block isn't cracked.

When I locked my motor up, just changing or cleaning the plugs didn't do it. There was still a little water left in the intake and in the cylinders even after turning it over without the plugs in. I sopped up the water in the intake with with my socks (I was 200 kms out in the mountains and it was snowing), then used intake cleaner in the intake and the cylinders. Let it sit overnight without the plugs in to let everything evaporate and all's good now. I've heard of people spraying WD-40 into the cylinders to help clean out the moisture. Chances are you might have fouled up your new plugs if you just changed them right away without getting all the water out. Could have also gotten your distributor wet. WD-40 will work to take the water out of that too.

RE: TJ gas fill and LED

I'd hose the cylinders and distributor down with WD40, install new plugs, and give 'er a go.

You got spark at the plugs? Then how about fuel? Are the injectors doing the old squirt-squirt like they should?

ok well it turns out im just retarted. After taking out the plugs and getting all the water out, It still wouldnt start. No wonder. I had the wires in the wrong order. Once my dad figures that out, it started right up and dumped a whole lot of water out the exhaust pipe. Thanks for your help guys!

Don't feel bad....I did something similar with my old Toyota, only it wouldn't start because I had left the coil wire off....found this out after towing it 30 miles to a buddy's house!!!
