What transmission do i have?

can anyone tell me what kind of transmission my jeep has. its an 87 jeep wagoneer 4x4 with the inline6 4.0 automatic transmission with overdrive setup....

it seems to take off in high gear when taken off in drive so im having to take of in a low gear then manually shift into drive.

AW4. Could be a bad TCU or bad TPS.

thanks.. wish i knew what AW4 and TCU or bad TPS meant im not very mechanicaly inclined when it comes to transmissions.

Is your wagoneer full size or small like the xj cherokees? AW4 is the type of transmission, TCU is the transmission control unit aka computer and TPS is throttle position sensor. If its full size you don't have an AW4 and I don't think they have OD either.

'87 Wagoneer with 4.0L and OD should be the XJ, the full-size Jeep of the same year was the Grand Wagoneer.

Do a google search for 'Jeep TPS adjustment' and you should get some good info. The TCU is the transmission computer up under the glovebox.
