I got a friend from work who wants to lift his 87 YJ....questions are..

what do we need to make this lift happen? we're thinking of ordering the rusty's 3" lift. and stick some 31s under it.

What other things will we need? or need to do?

go w/a 4"lift - some good ones out there - i have the HellCreek lift - it has a supple ride - complete kit - fits 33's no problem and great service... it comes w/the drop pitman arm (borrow the pitman arm puller from autozone) and you have to break the ball joint free from the small end of the old one - the kit is really complete and figure a weekend to do it (air tools made mine an 8 hour project...) if you dont want 33's at least go 32's - thats what i had on my old 91 sahara - w/the pro comp lift ... waaaaay to stiff a ride - also - order a new steering damper... you can lose the sway bar in front and the rear track bar if you want - i did and have no problems on the street - hope this helps - i know i had TONS of questions the first time i lifted a jeep but you'll be diggin the results and wanting more!!!!

I'm real happy with my Rusty's 3.5" kit, rides great and can't beat the price. The kit is pretty complete if you're just wanting to run 31" tires.

Oh, almost forgot, you'll need a longer rear brakeline, you can get braided stainless for about $35 from Rubicon Express. You can get longer front lines (more expensive) or move the hardlines further down the outside of the frame.

yeah we looked at rustys lift and he likes the price. Whats the SYE factor on a 3.5" lift for a YJ?

Sooo tell me if this is good..

rusty's kit 4"
dropped pitman arm
extended brake lines
discos
steering stabilizer

that should be it? or should he get the SYE and driveshaft..

price is a factor so thats why we think of rusty's lift 410 bucks seems like a good price, but we haven't factored in all the extras yet.

Is there a place where we can get lift with every single thing we need and tires?

Don't forget the cold beers (or non-alcoholic beverages) & pizza.

case of yuengling and pizza no doubt.....if we don't have to SYE i'd rather not, extra like 600 bucks with a shaft.

Or any combination of:
Add-a-leaf
TJ flares
Body lift

Doesn't take much to clear 31"s on a budget. The Rusty's kit would be more suited to clearing 33" tires.

My Rusty's 3.5" kit came with a transfer case drop.

my sye and shaft costed me a total of no more than 230 bucks.... that was the cost of the sye and fluid to fill it... the shaft i have is a front cherokee shaft... i sleeved over it with some 2" pipe to strengthen it
