which accessories will make my Jeep a little safer?

I saw a Jeep involved in a car accident the other day and it seemed like the Jeep took on 25% more damage than the other car. What can I add to my Jeep to reduce the damage in an accident with another car? :-? [addsig]

The best thing is pay more attention. You can always add a Stout Bumber, Winch, even a Large Spare Tire (And the other four) Unfoutunatly, Fate sometimes steps in and you can never be 100% protected. A Semi hits you in the front or a VW in the door. Still going to hurt. Who Know's.[addsig]

Good heavy duty bumpers and 1/4" x 4" x 4" Angle Iron Rocker Panels to stiffen the sides and a good full roll cage. Add some comp seats and 5 way harness. There is a bunch of things to do to improve the safty aspects of your ride. But there is nothing to take the place of good ol common sence and safty mindedness. Good luck Tug[addsig]

One of the first things, I add to a Jeep new to me, is a good class three trailer hitch..

Gas tank always appeared vulnerable to me, in a rear end collision, especialy when the ride is raised. If I drag it on occassion oops and sorry, never really hung one up and a couple of times, I believe, it kept me from skinning the gas tank.

Towing from a hitch, is to be avoided, they have a tendancy to bend some. Though they are stronger than most bumpers.

Something to keep in mind, about bullet proof bumpers, in a decent crash, something is going to give, and if the bumpers don´t, the frame will. I usually try to copy the standard mounts and stiffen them some. Or one technique I´ve used with success, is to make the bolt holes oblong (about and inch and a half), so the bumper slides some before it bottoms out.[addsig]

I have an aftermarket rear bumper that has a 2" receiver for a hitch. When on the street I always keep the hitch on so if someone rearends me, hopefully it will be light enough to damage their car before it actually hits my jeep. You could also try putting in a corvette 350 so you can just punch the gas and get out of the way avoiding an accident all together.[addsig]

id install some heavy duty hydros, and when you see danger comin just slam those things and let the jeep jump all 4 off the pavement 3 or 4 feet. the corvette engine is a cheaper solution[addsig]

One thing that saved my a** and I can't say enough about is the side tubular bars take alot of punishment and will save your butt on a side impact......if not buy a tank :-D [addsig]
