Wrangler Redesign

Talked to a Jeep employee (NOT a dealer, I have found dealers know just enough about a car to sell it too you) at the Jeep Route 2003 Tour thingy last weekend... I asked him is the IFS rumors were true and he said that because fo the LARGE hardcore fanbase, the SWB Jeeps will always have a full frame and solid axles...

P.S. --> I was wearing my "Chevy Trucks" hat at the time is that adds any validation...

rotating the spare.

What are the reasons you guys aren't fans of the independent front suspension?

IFS, now that might be something worth looking at. If they can settle the weight issue and componet reliablity this promises to be one of the better innovations for a Jeep.
If we all take a moment and take a real look at what an H1 Hummer can do off -road (baring the width issue). indapendent suspention can and will give jeeps better off-road handling that H1's can achieve. We as a group are limited to what we can do with off cantour wheeling. When we are faced with wide cracks and sever terrain we will always face the possability of breaking front end steering componets and or taking out a drive shaft. With having a IFS and or a IRS we can reduce this breakage to a minimum factor.

From all the major manufactures Tera-flex, Fabtech, Danatrac, ect ect. each has or has been working on IS and "Y" type of suspention packages.
With this type of suspention we can look foward to better clearence and more stability in off cantour driving.
Personaly I am looking at and currently saving for Tera-flex'es LLC ( a "Y" type of suspention) package which will give my ride the next step and as far as I can see the last step in straight axle suspention, till they come out with IFS and IRS bolt on packages.
As we read this each of you will have nasty comments about it and call me a trader to Jeep or some thing less flattering.
What I havnt seen is a good arument against IS suspention with sound arguments. Just because its proven doesnt mean squat. The old 286-sx computer was a proven computer as well how many today are running one?

check this out ,got down to the 3-4 paragraph!! http:/www.stadiumautomall.com/showcar.asp?markerName=jeep&modelName=wrangler

I'd like to see those "portal" axles on them. Talk about ground clearance!!!

fourwheeldrivehummerdiagram-2.jpg

Diagram of Hummer system, one cool feature of the Hummer is the geared hubs it uses at each wheel. These raise the entire driveline, giving the Hummer 16 inches (40.64 cm) of ground clearance, more than double what most four-wheel drives have.

MMMM Torsen® differentials

Wouldnt suprise me if they screwed up a good thing. Just look at the way they put the bolts in the stock shackles :)
