Yes -- another lift question

I am on a limited budget and am thinking of putting a three inch body lift on my 1980 cj7. The body lift kits listed in Quadratrac say that with the three inch I will not require any shock, spring, or driveshaft changes. Is it that simple -- just put the spacers on and I will not have to change or adjust anything else. The reason I ask is that the 3" is only around $80.00 -- this I can afford, if I do not have to do any other modifications.

It is true with any size body lift that you will not require any shock, spring, or driveshaft changes. You will, with a 3" body lift, have to bend down to shift, and they look pretty bad (my opinion), especially with a stock suspension - nothin' but undercarraige! You may want to consider a 1 or 2 inch or a combination of a 1" shackle/1" body lifts. There are some pretty good, inexpensive suspension lifts out there for a CJ, maybe you could hold off for the "real deal".

with a 3" body lift, you will have to modify your floor board for shifting, might have to extend your steering shaft, might have to extend your filler hose for your gas tank, and might need to move your radiator... don't go above 2" with a body lift

I would not recomend anything over 1 inch. A body lift is not designed to be the primary lift but rather a method for a little more clearence.

thats right, i would not do a body lift without doing another sort of lift first, or along with it

ok -- maybe a two inch is better. What my aim is -- i was given some 35" tires, and this is what i am trying to get on my jeep. I also like the 'look.' Also, I forgot to say that my jeep is an automatic -- will that cause any problems. Will a one inch lift and maybe shackle lift make a noticeable appearance. I want that look. Or should I go 2'' and shackle?

Jeep Seat Riser/Bracket

Eeeeeek!! 35's,....limited Budget?? Don't waste your time unless you plan on chopping up the body. Even if stretch it so they clear the outside of the fenders they will still grab the inner parts. Leafs, frame, inner fender etc..

A stock jeep will look better, handle better, 4x4 better and be seen as respectable to other jeepers, WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better then some body lifted stretched shackle frankestien rig.

1/2 to 1 inch shackles are ok a 1 inch body lift is ok. Anything over those you start to eliminate the advanteges of having them in the first place.

Now, if your gonna blast this out of the back of your barn and 4x in the cow patties with drunk friends on the weekend, then your ideas are perfect!! Otherwise sell the 35's or save your cash.

I actually was considering those 2 inch inserts for my 97 Sport -

I am getting the impression that they may not serve any purpose other than a "look"

Also, a major concern of mine is this - Without exageration I have challenged Gravity in my Jeep, there were times that I wondered - How did I get home? and Why did'nt this heap flip? Seriously.
2 inches of lift may take that ability away. I have driven cars that were FAR LESS stable than my Jeep, I think factory low may be the way to go.

95 MPH over the Tobin Bridge, drop to 70 at the turn and allow a slight drift to the outside, feel the wheels as they THINK about a skiping. BUT THEY DONT - Be one with the Jeep.

FYI - There is a downward trajectory and she has to be "nearly" floored -

On this run she can break 100, but it is like being in a tent on the day of judgement. I swear a small child or animal would be sucked out the rear window. HELL ON EARTH is the sound!!!
