disconnects

I ordered a set of disconnects for 4" lift from Rough Country ($49). They came with adapter brackets for the stud type top mount. Well the adapter came with a short bolt and the bracket, and that's all. I used the factory bushings to mount it to the swaybar, as just bolting it would not have worked.

This required longer bolts. No big deal, $0.28 at home depot.

well now the disconnects are too long, and put the swaybar waay up too high so I'm having my neighbor who works in a metal shop cut the center sections down and re-drill them so they are the proper length.

In the meantime, I have tied the bar up out of the way until I get them back and will be driving swaybarless.

anybody else had an issue with this? am I missing something on how to mount it to the swaybar? Seems like RC should have taken this in consideration but they didn't. Probably should have sent the center sections for the smaller set (stock to 3").

Here's a pic of how I mounted them, am I retarded or is this right???

Why do u need the rubber bushings ? Without those would it fit right ?

yeah my skyjacker links don't use rubber bushing...that bracket just gets mounted right to the swaybar. try that to see if that fixes it, lose the rubber.

A first for my Jeep

went out and took a picture...

Mines a TJ so i don't know if its any differnt, but i'm sure its pretty much the same deal

JKS doesn't come with the bushings on the top either.

No, it is the same, but the swaybar has a pretty big sized bolt hole and the bracket does not, so the bolt is much thinner than the opening in the swarbar. I figured it would move around, not to mention the damn brackets didn't even come with washers.

Was the bolt that came with the skyjacker and JKS discos a good fit in the swaybar hole?

I just think the skinny little bolt that came with my brackets would move around and eventually break. Maybe it was designed like that because there really isn't much strain on it, but it doesn't look right.

RE discos dont use bushings, and the brackets dont use washers either. the only washers were for the bottom bolt and the bolt that goes through the swaybar. i dont recall the bolt that goes though the swaybar being too small. maybe a little play, but i think i would have noticed if it was quite a bit different. your setup sounds OK to me.

engine code question

Bolts that came with the skyjacker kit are bigger than the holes in the swaybar so i had to enlarge my holes in the swaybar to accept the new larger bolts.

That explains alot. I'm just going to shorten the center tubes as planned. it's easy enough and problem solved.

Thanks to all who replied. Guess I should've spent the extra cash and got JKS or Teraflex. Same story every time I try to save a buck!

Lose the bushings, the conversion bracket bolts right to the swaybar. Use a sleeve in the swaybar hole or drill the bracket out to accept a thicker bolt.

Too much rubber bushing will not allow the swaybar to function properly, it'll be too soft.

It had the bushings in it while it was stock :?

Too late. My neighbor left for work an hour ago, and when he gets home the centers will be 1.5" shorter.

If it doesn't work as I'd hoped, I'll sell them as disco's for a 3" lift and get a set of good ones.

For my lift, I bought 4 products from Rough Country:
1. Trackbar relocation bracket - took 2 hours of banging and spud wrench to get into place, and then even though it centered the axle, it made the steering a nightmare. REMOVED it

2. Swaybar Disco's - see above thread. May scrap 'em!

3. Shocks - should've known better. They just plain suck. Will have a set of DT3000's when I get a chance

4. Short AAL's - I actually like them. They have exceeded my expectations (a small miracle in itself).

Needless to say, I am DONE with Rough Country. I know alot of folks on this site have run their YJ kit with success, but these products I've bought have caused me too much BS.

The rest of the products were from Rusty's Offroad and Rocky Road Outfitters. No complaints about these products.

This may be a silly question but this is how my JKS worked. the U bracket went on top of the Sway bar and the bolt went through the Swaybar Eyelet fisrt then up through the U-Bracket. This puts the pressure on the Bracket and not the bolt. Maybe THAT is why it is so High.

Seams like all that pressure on that one little bolt would be pretty dangerous.

I do see what you mean, but the problem was the bolt was a skinny bolt, and I would have had to either drill the bracket and get a bigger bolt, or use a spacer or something to keep the bolt from wiggling around in the larger swaybar holes.

I'm tired of trying to make chicken salad out of chicken $#iT with the RC crap.

As you can see from My pic and LGR's pic, our brackets would not allow for them to be mounted on top of the bar, 'cause then there would not be enough room to mount the disconnect. I dunno, maybe there would be.

I'll mess with it tomorrow. I'll probably do like Bounty said and drill the bracket and get a larger bolt. They disco's are lenght adjustable, so I'll still be able to use them after they've been cut.

Good choice on the DT shocks. Some local jeepers here have used about 3 or 4 Rough Country kits, 1 TJ and the rest XJ and they rave over them. They work well offroad as well.

Rusty's Offroad is good too, he is the XJ man when it comes to the station wagons.

I'm surprised you're happy with the short AAL, I figured they would make the ride too harsh. I've used full-length and didn't change the ride at all, and still flexed well.

Good luck, keep us posted, and give our best wishes to the wife.

Well, if you notice in the JKS Pic they have an Extra Washer for the XJ application. So, just get your JKS's and be done with it :-D

Well my neighbor cut the center sections and drilled them for me too. I could have done it, but he's got better equipment at his work. Got them on and they're working fine.

 bent the snot out of the Pass side bolt while pulling up an entrance to a trail.

Drilled out the bracket, got thicker bolts, and now they are as they should be. Good thing they are adjustable 'cause they would have been too short after cutting them!
