gas overflowing during pumping

Wondering if anybody has this problem. I have gotten gas three times so far in my TJ and everytime it overflows after the first time the handle stops the pump. Was wondering if there is a fix or did I just forget how to pump gas after some 20+ years of pumping gas.

Either the rollover valve or the vent tube is restricted. Those are the 2 common causes for this. Also, check the emission lines from the fuel tank. Make sure they are not restricted or kinked.

Replacing the gas tank seems to be the only fix, and that's temporary. There's a faulty valve on '03-'06 TJs. There's a big push from the Jeep community to get a recall, but it's been 7 years since the problem started and nothing yet.

Yeah, I was going to say my '06 does this relatively often (but not always). My solution is to keep an eye on how much gas I'm putting in (i.e., it's an 18 gallon tank. If I'm at about 1/4 tank of the fuel gauge, I'll put in like 11-12 gallons and call it a day and not wait for it to shut itself off). The only time I ever fill it completely up and let it shut itself off is if I'm on a road trip.
