gear shifter shortness ?????

Have a 4inch susp. and a 3" body lift, the shifter has gotten smaller where can i get a extension or is there any other ways besides "viagra"to get it up??

Do you need that much body lift? What size tires you running that need that much clearance? I'd consider installing TJ fender flares and getting a 1" body lift to replace that 3".

well it just had a body lift on it when i bought it,so i figured what the hay and left it on when i put the susp. lift on it.I am running 33's but when i get in a tight flex it does touch my flares a little.....u think th body lift is the main cause for the shortening of the shifters?

The body is lifted above all the drive train, making the shifters shorter.

Best bet would be to make the body lift smaller.

thats' my two cents

Cracked exhaust manifold on a 4.0L?!?

7" of lift is really not necessary for 33" tires, you should be fine with 4" susp. and 1" body.

Not without homegrown fabrication. You can cut the shifter and weld in an extension, but there are less permanent solutions. I'd find some metal rod the same diameter as the top of the shifter, and have it threaded to match on both ends. Then get a piece of tubing threaded on both ends to join the rod to the stock shifter. Then reattach the shift handle to the end of the extension.

ok,thx, i will check into that , or lower the body back down a bit...

Maybe you could try one of those shifter enlargement pumps, from what I've read in the magazines they can really work wonders.

yeah... they work... i got my guaranteed 3" as they promised... but it is now crooked.. and gets in the way of the steering wheel when in first gear

all the body mounts do is lift the body, does nothing for ground clearance, intake height, etc.....

Don't forget allowing clearance for larger tires without raising the center of gravity as much as a spring lift of the same height.

I think most jeepers feel the 3" lift is awkward in appearance, such large gaps between the frame and body. You also have too many problems with the steering shaft, shifter shortness, fan clearance, etc.

My club went to Turkey Bay (LBL, KY) this past weekend and one jeeper's YJ tub shifted on the frame when he dropped off into a crack after straddling it. This is with no body lift and supposedly tight body mounts. This situation would be much more severe with more body lift.

Doesn't matter if you wheel or not, you increase the leverage on the body bolts and mounts by moving the body further from the frame.

My 1" body lift is wider than the stock mounts, so it helps to counter the effect of increased leverage.

I have a 2" body lift and 3" suspension and I feel your pain. My shifter is sitting down about 3 to 4 inches and it makes a difference. If you going to keep the BL, as stated before- get some same diameter rod and weld it in just below the angle towards the top. Otherwise it will hit the rt frt corner of the driver seat. I got a shop all set to do mine just need to find the time. Good luck and let us know what you do. I think I might just have to get into the Aftermarket shifter business. Make a killing on Jeeps alone!!!!!! :p

just pretend you bought a honda and its a shirt shifter kit. if anyone asks just tell them its to help powershift as you smoke ricers off the line!

I am glad i'm not alone in this matter.I offroad maybe,3-6 times a month, and have no problems with a short shifter, but i am glad i don't have shorter arms than what i do.That would suck.thx again for the feed back. I will more than likely keep the body lift on and either live with a short shifter or get it curved/lengthend.
