Handguns

I think Remington makes one for some rifle models, but never seen one on a handgun. It takes a little key that has shape to it like those locking lug nuts. The lock disengages the firing pin.

I think maybe Taurus uses a system with what looks like basically a small allen's wrench. It goes in to the back of the grip if I recall correctly. Ill try to find a pic on the net.

I came in late and skipped a lot of pages on this thread.

Is this one of those controversial posts my Mommy always warned me about?

Was anyone injured in the making of this thread?

I have guns.

It's been pretty good so far...
Ok here is a small picture and description of the Taurus system anyway
From his link... here's one Sparky. Some are located in the side of the firearm, usually above the grip. The ones I saw that did not have them are all marked "Not legal for sale in Maryland"

Yeah, I can't even find my Jeep keys in the morning most of the time, let alone a small black key in the dark. Thats why I've been training to use the gun as a club in one hand and the key as a knife in the other. I've got a friend that can stick playing cards into Styrofoam, I'm thinking he'll be able to show me how to throw the bullets in a menacing manner

Yeah, that's my big fear, too. I've got locks for all of my guns, but never use them, just for that reason. However, all of my guns (except one) are locked in my gun safe. The other is in a special gun safe in my office that locks, but doesn't need a key to get into. Only I know where the safe is and only I know how to get into it. Interesting thing is, I can unlock it from two different positions in the office; right next to it or from across the room by the doorway. I'm currently working on plans for another to put in the bedroom by my side of the bed that can be accessed through the headboard or directly from the side of the bed on the floor. I guarantee you can't see either one of them, and they're both in plain sight. The only way a thief could find them is with a metal detector or a wrecking ball.:D I can get into the one in the office, slam a clip in the gun, and rack the slide in about 7 seconds.8)

While I think it's ridiculous to require it by law like in Maryland, I can see it being a reasonable option as an alternative to a safe or trigger lock. It is only locked if you lock it, right? I would assume if someone were relying on a pistol for home protection (I prefer my shorty 12 gauge) then they would keep it unlocked.

I believe in personal responsibility, a safe , a lock , a barrel plug , whatever you do just make it safe, these laws are gettin rediculous and alot of it is due to people (only a few compaired to how many gun owners there are) not being responsible. Some people need to be slapped upside the head. An allen screw ???

Yea, I mean you dont have to lock it if you dont want too. And I admire the gun manufacturers for doing it. However I dont think it should be required. You cant regulate stupidity, and the people who are so irresponsible that they need that feature, wont use it anyway!

Absolutely agree! Personally, I think there should be an idiot eliminator built into all guns that causes the weapon to fire a bullet out the back side when it senses someone with little or no intelligence holding it.

I don't know if this is something that has been taken care of by Barretta, but it used to be that on some of their pistols the slide would come all the way off of the back. If someone knew enough about them they could reach up and disarm you by sliding it off the back and then you gots nuttin.

I read about this a few years ago, but it's something that I would think twice about first...

Just $.02 from me.

Having the mandate that your firearms are "secure" when not in your immediate possession is in the future. You can find it in many other countries already

Several states now make it a felony if someone is injured by your weapon because you didn't lock it up. My dad started teaching me about guns and gun safety as far back as I can remember, probably 4 or 5 years old. That is the key, teach kids at a very early age, and teach them often about gun safety, then by the time they get old enough to own their own weapons, it is ingrained in them and will be like an instinctive response to always treat a gun safely.

That stunt was on a few movies too (movies arent they great, never run out of ammo, 1 round blows up houses, they always seem to live for the next movie too) not even a big deal, if even possable when a guy is holding a lock and loaded weapon on ya . but for that matter one could just apply presure to the front of the barrel to most semis and they won't fire ( a safety feature in most semis I've had) or hold the area by the hammer and it won't fall, or if they are really fast , just put the safe on. If someone is that close to me and I have not shot him and I felt threatened I would expect him to take it away from me beat me with it and shoot me for being that stupid to allow myself to get into that situation.... just my thoughts
