I’m thinking of doing a cam and lifters in a 2006 LJ with a 4.0.

Its bone stock now and I was thinking of going with a cam that would be a little better for pulling trailers.
Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much,
Jake

Go for it, it's not that difficult. Just make sure you install the proper valve springs for the amount of lift on the cam. I used Mopar Performance cam and v8 magnum valve springs in my 2.5L.

Check out the RV grinds as they'll give you more power where you need it when pulling.

I was hoping to find something with more duration and may be just a bit of lift.
What brand of products would you recommend Bounty Hunter?
Thanks,

I have beencalling around and no one has a aftermarket cam for this.
A couple of places said that I have to use a cam from an older 4.0 liter.

Has anyone donethis yet?
Thanks so much,
Jake

If you look at Hesco's cams they mention having to use an older single-groove valve instead of your current triple groove when installing the correct valve springs for an aftermarket cam. This might be what they're talking about. Nothing else changed with the cam.

This means removing your head, which is more involved than a simple cam and spring change.

I had to upgrade the OPDA before it grenaded.
Now looking to replace the cam I thought that a few more ponies wouldn’t hurt.

I took your advice and called Hesco great people. They said that they don't have any cores to work from. they also said the same thing you did and sugested an older cam.
The only other option is to get a stock one from Chysler.

I'm interested in your picks and outcome. Please do a build thread.

Do you have oversize tires? Have you considered regearing the axles to restore performance and aid in towing?

I have thought about regearing this one. The only draw backis I only pull a trailer once in a while.
I’m surprised that there isn’t a big enough market forupgrades short of building a stroker.

There are items marketed as upgrades but none add hp like mechanical changes. A supercharger makes a difference if you could afford it and the other changes.

I prefer superchargers over a turbo.
But this is a daily driver. If the OPDA hadn’t needed to bereplaced I wouldn’t be in a position to replace the cam.
I guess the 05-06 Wrangler is another black sheep.
