i was wondering what the advantages/disadvantages of removing the rear trackbar are? is it a safe modification for a lifted jeep (3")? any input will be appreciated!

Long Island Wheelin'

i cant wait to pull out mine. ive heard that there are no ill efects, but i'll be checking this post because im not sure.

I think what you're reffering to as the track bar is actually the sway bar and yes you can remove it with only ill effect is that is the body may roll a little more around corners. the advantage is that you will get a little more articulation when you're wheelin. I dont believe XJ's have a rear trackbar if they have leaf springs. ZJ's have a track bar because they have coil springs and if that was removed it would definitly be BAD THING. The sway bar is mounted to the top of the leaf springs and mounts to the frame on both sides on pivot points. Track bars are mounted one side to the frame and the other to the opposite side of the axle and is designed to keep the axle aligned with the front wheels.

someone feel free to correct me if I am wrong about XJ's not having rear track bars, I am not real familiar with the newer ones.

i just went outside to double check, and yup. there is definitely on there.

Its not that I dont believe you but my Chilton nor my Haynes show cherokee's having a rear track bar. There is no mention of one in quadretec or 4WD catalogs either for cherokee. All they show is one for the grands. I you have a digital camera post a pic up here I would love to see how it is mounted. Your cherokee does have leaf springs right? I know they changed a few things on 97 and newer cherokee's But it was to understanding the suspension remained the same. The only thing I could think of is why you might have a track bar is that the rear end come out of a grand cherokee and someone modfied it to fit a cherokee possibly for the rear disc brakes some grands have.
