steering wheel shake --- weird

I took my jeep in for inspection about a month ago, and ever since then i have had a strange problem (I think it was since then-- but maybe i just didnt notice it before)
MOst of the time (not always) when i get up to 50 mph, the steering wheels shudders back and forth real hard (Not very far, pretty much just back and forth taking up the play in the wheel -- not enough to change direction) It stops when i reach 55 mph or when i slow down below 50. It will also do it if i am decelerating--- once i slow down to 55 it shakes until i am slowed below 50.. I thought at first that they had filled the tires too much and that it was just a rough ride-- then i realized that it was only between certain speeds (checked tires anyway-- right at 30 psi) Does this sound like a front end alignment problem? I've never had anything like this happen before and it really kind of baffles me.. anyone have any similar problems?

that sounds more like a tire balancing issue. From what I have found if you get speed wobbles at a certian speed then one of your little balancing weights have fallen off. It is either that or you have knocked yourself out of alignment.

That is about all I would blame it on. but then again I am no mechanic. [addsig]

I have had the same problem. Have the balance checked and make note of the speed at which it happens and mention it to the guy doing the balancing. May want to check your wheel bearings and make sure they are not loose or need to be repacked. I change tires and my vibration started happening at a different speed. Just decided to put up with it knowing it would pass when my speed changed. Good luck.
