As far as doing a manual conversion, O'Reily's sells universal kits for like, 9 bucks. It's real easy to do and it only took me about ten minutes and I haven't had to worry about it since. It even comes with instructions!

I have a grinding D300 as well. Nothing to be worried about. Try not to force it in, just apply gentle pressure until it drops in, it will also work better if you do what redrooster suggested about shifting at a slow roll, I believe this is what the owner's manual suggests as well.

RE: More advice for a noob If you check out www.bustedjeep.com, they have instructions on how to make a hand throttle out of some bicycle cables. If you use a gear shifter and not a brake lever, this can double as a cruise control.

Cruise Control? Before the HEI, every once in a while, when I would go over a bump, the engine would just die. I attributed this to ignition wires coming loose because it was a sudden drop off, it didn't sputter to a stop. Do y'all think a rebuild will fix this or do I need to change to smaller...

Engine Troubles of some sort I don't know about your T-case, but mine takes straight 90 wt. So does my transmission for that matter, but yours is an automatic, so it probably takes automatic transmission fluid, so my guess is no, the fluids aren't shared. I hope somebody who knows a bit more...
