    oil pressure bost

1042195 25 psi at idle when hot? You're fine. The only cheap way of boosting the oil pressure is by using a heavier weight motor oil. Better than that would be to install new main bearings, seals and a new high volume oil pump. Even better than that is to have the engine rebuilt. 145K is a good...

Need project Jeep (for fun and educational purposes)

1042197 Mike, $800 is not going to get you a very decent vehicle. A rot box in need of a total restoration might be ok for someone who has a lot of experience with Jeeps and gets parts at wholesale cost, but if you're a beginner, you might want to look for something in a little better...

    oil pressure bost

1042198 The benefit is that the oil can actually make it up to the top end of your engine and lubricate the cam, lifters, rockers, valve springs, etc. Low oil pressure is the beginning of major problems and should be fixed ASAP.[addsig]

    Fender flare painting

1042277 You should paint it with something other than rattle can paint. If you have a paint gun, air compressor and some patience, you can do a really nice job. Scuff it down with medium scotchbrite, then spray on PPG DPX 801 (Adhesion Promoter) PPG DCC 9300 (Single Stage Urethane paint) with...

    CJ-7 Project Update

1042282 Jeeper, Thanks for the compliment. It is a base coat/clear coat system. The base coat goes on in 3 coats and then "dries" (Actually "cures") for 20-30 minutes, then comes the clear coat. The clear coat goes on in 2 coats and takes 6 hours to fully "cure", but in the photos you're...

    CJ-7 Project Update

1042285 Thanks, Ant. That idea is actually in the works. Once I get into a bigger and brand new shop next summer/fall, I plan to offer pre painted and finished body kits in any color the customer chooses. Stay tuned for more updates on the project. I'm hoping to have it done in the next...

    POR 15, Hurculiner, and Durabak

1042287 I'd suggest saving yourself a lot of time, money and extra work. Just spray 3-4 good coats of POR-15 and you're good to go. HTH[addsig]

    CJ-7 Project Update

1042312 Thanks, Matt. I'm working on the doors (old style doors with rotary handles), windshield frame, tailgate, hood and rollbar now. I'm hoping to have them all in base and clear by the end of this coming weekend. Stay tuned![addsig]

    POR 15

1042324 Yes, POR-15 has to be on the metal for it to work. Blast it to bare metal, use marine clean, rinse, use the metal ready, rinse and apply 3-4 medium/wet coats of POR-15. You *can* put POR-15 over existing paint, but it's not going to protect the metal. [addsig]

    CJ-7 Project Update

1042596 Thanks, Jim. I'm located in northern NJ. I got held up fixing, prepping, priming and painting the hardtop for the last week and I only just got around to doing the base and clear on the hood, doors, etc today. I hope to have some more photos soon. [addsig]

    Loud knocking sound

1042968 If it is a timing knock/ping, try using a better grade of gas and if that still doesn't get rid of it, try retarding the timing a degree or two. It's strange though that you pinpointed it to the distributor area.... Maybe the distributor gear is worn and has some slop allowing it to...

    Loud knocking sound

1042969 That reminds me..... For you guys who have the Mopar MPI kit installed on your 258 engines, here's a tip.... If you're tired of having to buy 94 octane just so the motor doesn't ping under load, try installing spacer bushings between the crank sensor bracket and the oil pan. Since...

    Pitman Help

1043070 I've had a few stubborn ones in my day too. Usually I torch it for a little while (with the puller still installed) and then it comes off. If that doesn't work for you, the only thing left to do is to take the steering box out, take it to your local shop and have them put the 20 ton...

    Rewiring hell!!!

1043071 The manual didn't have the wiring diagrams? That's odd. If you want to post exactly what wires you're having problems with, I can help you through it. After rewiring so many of these things, I litterally know by heart the wire colors and where they go. Just let me know.[addsig]
