Just bought an '84 Laredo with factory A/C. It works well-however, the fan cycles on and off with the compressor, and it tends to cycle very frequently. This leads to icing of the condensor coil and poor performance. It also tends to cycle on and off pretty frequently, like the bulb is directly in front of the coil.
I used to have an '80 Laredo with factory air, and on that vehicle the fan turned on with the three position selector switch, and stayed on even when the compressor wasn't engaged. That helped to keep the condensor ice-free, and I never had an issue with it.
My question - can anyone tell me if this is normal for the fan on an '84, and if not, what could have been done to make it work this way? I'm hesitant to drop the blower unit, as I've never been real impressed with the sheet metal screw method of fastening the blower unit to the dash panel (I prefer not to disturb it unless necessary).
Thanks
