just wondering if anyone else seen this problem..

90 yj 2.5L 5speed

it seems lately that my gas gauge acts normal until it reaches a 1/2 tank. after i hit 1/2 on the gauge the gas seems to decrease more rapidly.

i had a new sending unit put in 2 months ago and even the old one did this. maybe its the gauge?

Welcome the wonderful world of jeeping. Fule gagues we dont need no stinking fule gagues! Use you trip meter like the rest of us. I fill er up at 200. miles. There are only seven working fule gagues left on the planet. 3 here on the jeepz.com board and the rest are in private collections around the country. hehehehehehe Welcome Tug

Sorry Tug, I have not informed the commitee that as of last week the number is now down to six. The guage in my YJ finally headed south. But seriously most of the gas gagues in jeeps dont last long for what ever reason. Best solution that i can give you is to find out how far your jeep can go on a tank, make a mental note of that distance, and fill up when you get to 80%. Having a jerry can on the back for those unexpected times is not a bad idea either.

Since I have one of the last 6 remaining functional fuel gauges, where should the bidding start...shout out Tug! (currently knocking on every peice of wood in sight so that the number will not drop to five after I jinx it with this post)[addsig]

My fuel gauge works....it seems that the problem mainly resides with the older YJs...I dunno...

just wondering though....

do you think its the gauge itself or the sending unit?

like i said it wasn't always like this. i think my '80 cj7 gauge even works better!

it seems smooth until i reach that 1/2 tank full point[addsig]

this is no joke when the level in your tank goes down so does the presure of some like that the vacume or somthing at least that what the guy at the dodge dealer told me and also if you leave your gas cap of you loose gas mileage, he said when there is a woosh when you take of you cap the cap is functioning properly and when there isnt its time to replace it, it took them 75 dollars to tell me that sounds like some crap to me but owell and my gas gage went south when i ripped the gas tank off over a stump, dont ask its embarassing.
