The AW4 was only in the the grand cherokees in 93 according the the transmission manual I have. The 42RE transmission was used throughout the following years with the inline 6 motors. So unless your transmission has been replaced prevoiusly you should have the 42RE but as bounty hunter...

Just to clarify that early ZJ's did have the command trac "np231" option. Not very many had it and I dont believe it was ever an option with the V8 motors or at least I have never encountered it. I got lucky with finding mine with I6. 95blkzj it could be one of the diffs as well my wifes...

the bellhousing on the chrysler 903 three speed automatic in jeeps with the 2.8 will only bolt to the 2.8L block and I beleive the 4.3L GM bloclks. I am not sure about the four banger. Hope this helps
