    Sounds like you have a loose battery cable! Check all the connections to and from. Pay close attention to the grounds on the block.

    A shop would be nice, I do all my work in the driveway. My rolling toolbox is in the cellar so thats a PITA. But with a Haynes book and good tools I'm happy.

    You probably have it done already but just my thoughts. U joints sell for $20 and up depending on brand. What your paying for is labor and that quote is not that bad because it is time consuming. I would suggest that you try to get him to do both front axles for say $400 every things negotiable...

    My rear passenger tire seems to sticking out about an inch more then the drivers side. Everything looks good under there, leafs sitting on the perch fine. whats up with that. any thoughts?

    Ya there a real pain I did mine and it took most of the day. I put mine in with a rented joint tool from auto zone. There are some good video,s on utube about it. Good luck buddy I feel your pain.

    I think its stuck calipers too. New pads may smell but they dont smoke. I would jack up the front and try to turn the tires if they dont turn freely you have a bad caliper.

    I think I told you in another thread that the bushing needs to pressed in. They are a very tight fit and dint just slid in there. And you need to remove the leafspring to do it.
